Children offer advice to newcomer

The children at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church put their artistic talents to work and came up with “an illustrated guide” to winter for recent arrival Saw Eh Klu.

Saw, a refugee from Myanmar, was sponsored through the Canadian government’s Blended Visa Office Referral Program. He arrived in20181220_154853 Saskatoon on November 8, after spending the last 10 years in a refugee camp in Thailand. He carried all of his belongings in one striped bag.

In their note to Saw, the grades 4, 5, and 6 class wrote:  “In winter, the weather can be very cold. But if you dress warm, it can be a lot of fun.” The children offered a number of ideas for winter activities:

“We like to make snow men,” one student said.

Cross-country skiing and outdoor camping were two more suggestions.20181220_154704

And enjoying a cup of hot chocolate with marshallows or cookies.

Saw appreciated the advice!
