Nest family sponsorships

Nest is waiting to welcome seven refugee families to the city. Your tax-deductible donations are needed and appreciated, especially now that we’ve had to cancel our Nest Secret Garden Tour due to the pandemic.

Donate on line through Canada Helps or send a cheque payable to Nest Saskatoon to: 1201 Broadway Avenue, Saskatoon, S7H 2A4.

Here are our current list of Nest sponsorships:

A Sudanese family of four in Israel: The Canadian Lutheran World Relief gave Nest four spots to sponsor this family (pictured here). Their friends in Israel and Egypt (with ties to Saskatoon and the Sisters of Sion) have raised the funds for the sponsorship. The application was submitted in September 2018.

A Sudanese family of four in Egypt:  Nest and the Canadian Lutheran World Relief submitted an application to sponsor this family in January 2020. The family has relatives in Saskatoon.

A Syrian family of six in Lebanon: A Saskatoon couple along with two United Churches contributed funds so Nest and the Anglican Diocese of Saskatoon could sponsor this Syrian family with relatives in Saskatoon. The application was submitted in 2018.

A Syrian family of three in Lebanon: Augustana Lutheran Church and many others raised the funds for this sponsorship, supported by Nest and the Anglican Diocese of Saskatoon. The family has relatives in Saskatoon.

A Pakistani family in Thailand.  Nest and the Canadian Lutheran World Relief sponsored this family in 2016, but the family’s sponsorship application was rejected in March 2017 by a Canadian visa officer in Singapore. Nest appealed the decision and won the judicial review. A second interview was held in May 2018. The family was rejected a second time. Nest submitted a new sponsorship application in 2018.

A Sudanese family of three in Egypt.  Musa and Rabia, originally from Darfur, have lived in Cairo for many years. In the summer of 2017, Musa was attacked and beaten by a knife-wielding mob. He nearly died of his injuries. Nest with the support of the Anglican Diocese of Saskatoon sponsored the family in December 2017. Their baby was born on January 6, 2018.

Iraqi family of six in Turkey. With the help of donations from a group of 22 people, Nest raised enough funds to sponsor Ghufran, her husband and their four children. The application was submitted in May 2017.

An Iraqi refugee mother in Turkey and an Eritrean refugee father in Sudan waiting to be reunited with their family in Saskatoon. Both sponsorships were submitted in 2019.
