The smiling face of. . .

This is the smiling face of Canadian citizenship.

More than a dozen refugees sponsored by Nest over the last five years are now Canadian citizens!

Saw Eh Klu (pictured here) is the most recent. Nest and the Anglican Diocese sponsored Saw Eh Klu to Saskatoon in November 2018. He is a Karen refugee from Myanmar who lived in a refugee camp in Thailand for more than a decade.

Saw Eh Klu took the oath of citizenship in August and was congratulated by the newly appointed Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marc Miller, who attended the Saskatoon ceremony. Saw Eh Klu works in construction.

Abdulhai Khair, who came to Saskatoon with his aunt and two cousins in March 2018, received his Canadian citizenship in May during an online ceremony.  Abdulhai, a refugee from Sudan, is pictured with his aunts, uncle and cousin.IMG-20230816-WA0008

Iraqi refugees Samer Al-Saleem and Marwa Almufty and their two children Rudy and Neelam (pictured below) also became citizens in the last year. They arrived in Saskatoon in the summer of 2018 and were among the 28 refugees Nest welcomed to the city that year.

They are pictured at their Citizenship Ceremony with history professor emeritus Dr. Jim Miller who brought greetings to the new Canadians.
